Our Private, Secure, On-site Crematorium - Crematory Center

McComas Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Memorial Center

At McComas Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Memorial Center, we continue a long-standing tradition of personal care by investing directly in the families and communities we serve. We are proud to offer a state-of-the-art on-site crematory, ensuring your loved one remains in our care throughout the entire cremation process.

While many funeral homes advertise cremation services, families are often surprised to learn that the actual cremation is frequently subcontracted to third-party providers. Our crematory is on-site at our Bel Air location.

From the moment your loved one is entrusted to us until the final disposition, every step is handled by our dedicated and licensed staff.

What This Means for Your Family

  • Your loved one never leaves our care
We personally oversee every step of the cremation process from start to finish, providing peace of mind and accountability.

  • Respect for cultural and religious traditions
We work closely with clergy and cultural leaders to ensure all religious, cultural, and personal guidelines are honored.

  • One individual at a time
We cremate only one individual at a time from start to finish.

Your loved one is held in a secure, climate-controlled environment until services or final disposition.

Our 10-Step Crematory Identification, Security & Control Process

To ensure the highest level of care and accountability, McComas Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Memorial Center follows a detailed 10-Step Identification and Security Process.

5 Steps Prior to Cremation

  1. An identification wristband is placed on your loved one at the time of removal.
  2. A protective container is clearly labeled when placed into refrigeration.
  3. An entry is made into the crematory logbook with the date and time of placement.
  4. Personalized crematory checklist is dated, time-stamped, and signed.
  5. A metal identification coin with the personal file number is attached to all documentation.

5 Steps During and After Cremation

  1. Removal from refrigeration is logged with date, time, and operator initials.
  2. Personalized checklist is signed immediately before and after cremation.
  3. Checklist, identification coin, and wristband remain with the crematory chamber during cremation.
  4. All identification materials remain with the processing equipment following cremation.
  5. The identification coin and wristband are sealed with the cremated remains to ensure proper identification.

This process is designed to provide complete transparency, security, and peace of mind for every family we serve.

Can Families Witness the Cremation Process?

Yes. McComas Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Memorial Center offers witness cremation for families who wish to be present for the initial stages of the cremation process.

A limited number of family members may attend, and we can accommodate those who desire a meaningful level of participation. If witnessing or participating in the cremation is important to your family, please speak with one of our funeral professionals so we can explain the process and guidelines in detail.
