William Thomas Hicks, Jr. "Bill", age 81, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away on January 13, 2025, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland.
Born in Bel Air, Maryland, Bill was the son of the late William and Etta (Wildason) Hicks. He was the beloved husband of Pattie (Barber) Hicks, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Bill served his country during the Vietnam War. He carried the enduring title of a Disabled Army Veteran, facing life’s challenges with courage and resilience.
Bill retired in 2001 following a distinguished 23-year career as a feeder driver with UPS, where he was known for his professionalism and camaraderie. During his tenure, he was an active member of the EDF Club, forming close bonds with colleagues that he cherished deeply.
After retirement, Bill embraced his love of the outdoors and a hands-on approach to life. He worked tirelessly on the family farm and established a landscaping business, where he took pride in maintaining his neighbors’ lawns. Whether riding his tractor, mowing the grass, or tending to his land, Bill found joy in nature’s simplicity.
An avid woodworker, Bill dedicated much of his time to crafting toys for his grandchildren, creating cherished heirlooms that reflected his love and craftsmanship. He was also known for his culinary talents, particularly his renowned secret-recipe spaghetti sauce that became a family favorite.
Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Level Community Fellowship Church, where he found strength and fellowship. His character was defined by kindness, a tireless work ethic, and a deep commitment to his family, friends, and community.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughters, Kimberly D. Winnicki and her spouse Michael, Kelly Hower and her spouse Woody; son, William Hicks, III "Billy" and his spouse Lara; grandchildren, Brittany Major and her spouse Jay, Katherine Cregar and her spouse Matthew, Woodrow Hower, IV and his spouse Kassi, Patricia Taylor and her spouse Troyal, Lauren Maines, Damon Winnicki and his spouse Pamela, Marlaina Gresko and her spouse Tyler, Mariah Maturana and her spouse Isaak, Mitchell Winnicki, Garrett Maines, Hailey Hicks, William T. Hicks, IV, "Liam"; nieces, Theresa Tibbs and her spouse Barry, Kimberly Yates; 8 great grandchildren and three special cousins, Elaine Evans, Carolyn Wells, Robin Brocato.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by, sister, Dorothy Hicks Miller, and special cousins, Buddy Calder, Donald Calder, and Joan Calder.
