William "Bill" Alexander Heron

November 8, 1947 — July 15, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Alexander Heron, who died peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Forest Hill, Maryland, at the age of 77.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, William was the beloved son of the late Wallace Henry Heron Jr. and Norma Louise (Conrades) Heron.

William is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Linda Marie Heron, whom he met in 1966 at a dance at Unity Hall. From that first kiss and walk to the bus stop together, they remained inseparable, building a life and a beautiful family filled with love and joy.

He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and is also survived by daughters, Dawn Caldwell Phelan, and Kristy Heron; son-in-law James Phelan; grandchildren Randy Caldwell and Brenna Phelan; Sisters Teresa Tomshack and Dutch Emory; Sister-in-law Patricia Rattini, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by Brother Wally Heron, and brother-in-law Joseph Rattini.

A proud graduate of City College, William was known for his passionate enthusiasm for sports. A devoted fan of both the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles, he rarely missed a game — whether at home or on the road. He also served his community as a dedicated football referee for over 30 years.

Outside of sports, William was a voracious reader, having read over 700 books during his retirement. His favorite author was James Patterson, whose stories brought him great joy.

Summers were especially cherished by William, who loved spending time with his family at his Ocean City condo. He delighted in long beach days, and his favorite tradition was watching Fourth of July fireworks light up the night sky along the shore.

A music lover, William had a lifelong fondness for The Beatles, whose songs were the soundtrack to many treasured memories.

William Heron will be remembered for his warmth, wit, unwavering dedication to family, and the genuine joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Williams name to The American Diabetes Association - Maryland Chapter or to The Special Olympics – Maryland Chapter.
