Timothy Joseph Byrne Lt Col Ret. USAF, age 72, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025. Born in Washington, DC, Tim was the beloved son of the late Leo Joseph Byrne and Jennie (Kozela) Byrne.
Tim is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Jacquelyn Ann Byrne (née Hribar). He was a loving father to Catherine Verbrugge and Nathaniel Majean, and a proud grandfather to Devin Majean, Aaron Majean, Brendan Majean, Landon Verbrugge, and Kyle Verbrugge. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Wise, and daughter-in-law Carey Majean. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Agnes Byrne.
Tim proudly served his country in both the United States Navy (4 years) and the United States Air Force (28 years), retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. He was a proud veteran, a member of the Military Officers Association of America, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6188, St. Francis Xavier Assembly.
In civilian life, Tim worked for the Federal Government at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood Area, where he was honored with the Civilian Scientist of the Year award for the state of Maryland. He was deeply respected for his contributions, although he rarely spoke of his many accomplishments.
Tim was a man of faith, serving for many years as a Eucharistic minister, faithfully bringing communion to veterans at the VA hospital. He lived a life of quiet service, always willing to lend a hand.
An avid athlete, Tim loved biking, swimming, and running. He held a 4th-degree black belt in Judo and helped coach at the Method JuiJitsu and Marshall Arts Academy. He also enjoyed target shooting and spending time outdoors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Tim’s memory.
