Thomas Austin Turner Sr.

THOMAS AUSTIN TURNER SR., the son of the late Henry Turner and Edith Peters Turner, was born July 12, 1930 in Gunpowder Neck, MD. He departed this life at home, after a long illness, on March 6, 2008. Thomas was raised on the shores of the Gunpowder Neck, and attended the Harford County Colored School System. He resided in Joppa, MD during his adult life. Thomas retired from Fort Meade after over 30 years of service, where he was licensed as a carpenter. He enjoyed carpentry, sports and working in his yard. Thomas was married to Mildred Gilbert for 52 years and out of this union, six children were born. Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Hoke; brothers Henry Turner Jr., Maris Turner, and James Turner.

Thomas leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife Mildred J. Turner of Joppa, MD; daughter Vivian Trafton of Riverside, MD; sons, Thomas Turner Jr. of Edgewood, MD, Daniel Turner of Joppa, MD, Alvin Turner of Houston, TX, Lewis Turner of Joppa, MD, Calvin Turner of Edgewood, MD; three sisters, June Spiers of Newark, NJ, Edith Shelley of Edgewood, MD, Catherine Hamilton of Bronx, NY; sister-in-laws, Charlotte Preston and Della Demby, both of Edgewood, MD; brother-in-law, Charles Gilbert of Aberdeen, MD; nineteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
