Thokozile Yolanda Cox

March 10, 1971 — December 27, 2025

Abingdon

Thokozile Yolanda Cox, age 54, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Thokozile was the beloved daughter of Edmundo A. Cox and Neddie S. (Matshazi) Cox, both of whom survive her.

Thokozile was a very kind and empathetic person who truly wore her heart on her sleeve. She devoted her professional life to helping others through her work in personal outreach as a laboratory liaison. She was deeply dedicated to her work, and many of the individuals she assisted were profoundly touched by her compassion and care. So meaningful were her connections that many wished to remain in contact with her, comforted by her presence and genuine concern.

She was a proud graduate of Joppatowne High School, where she participated in track and field, and later attended Grinnell College in Iowa, where she played rugby.

Thokozile had a deep love for animals, especially her two rescue cats, Sophie, and Violet, who were like children to her and brought her great joy.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Antonio Cox, and his spouse Anne Cox; nephews Dakota Cox and Gabriel Cox; nieces Marley Cox, Malaina Cox and Kaiyah Martin; and large extended family in Panama, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International or to help Shadow Cats TNR by donating at Shadow Cats TNR
