Steven D. Nakhla, 48, of Abingdon, MD, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 10, 2026, following a 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a loving father, devoted husband, dependable son, and loyal friend. He will be remembered as deeply kind, viciously smart, and utterly hilarious by all who knew him.
Steven was born in Baltimore and a lifelong Marylander. He was loyal to the Baltimore Ravens (even in 2015!) and Orioles (even in 2018!) and a graduate of UMBC (Computer Science Class of 2000). He earned his MS in Network Security from Capitol Technology University in 2003. He found tremendous joy in watching local sports games with his family, especially on days when the weather allowed him to man the grill. He earned his black belt in Taekwondo and could beat most anyone in a game of Trivial Pursuit.
A proud self-described tech nerd, Steven loved all things Apple, Star Wars, and Marvel. He was go-to tech support for all of his family and friends and was happy to answer any call at any time, even if it was just an overtired niece attempting to make multiple profiles in Apple TV while up with her infant in the middle of the night.
He had a strong love for music, particularly the blues. His love for Memphis and New Orleans soul led him to learn guitar and give his daughter a middle name inspired by BB King. Steven also took great pride in his Egyptian heritage, teaching his daughter how to make stuffed grape leaves and both kids all the bad words in Arabic.
He spent the last two decades working as a software engineer for T. Rowe Price and rose to their senior leadership role overseeing enterprise security. He was a compassionate and thoughtful manager whose steady assurance and quippy one-liners will be greatly missed by his team.
Above all else, Steven loved his friends, his family, and the Lord. He was a steadfast Christian whose faith guided him through multiple battles with cancer, countless medical question marks, and many dark days. His friends and neighbors knew him as generous and kind, always willing to show up and help out anyone in need. He put his family first every day, focusing more effort into caring for his children, his parents, and his beloved wife than he ever put toward himself.
Steven’s departure from this Earth leaves a hole that cannot be filled, but the optimism and positivity he held throughout his life will inspire everyone who knew him to keep moving forward. He repeatedly shared the words, “God is good all the time,” throughout his journey, and he lived by those words every day. Those who knew him are also sure to enjoy a chuckle every now and again when they remember one of his legendary sarcastic remarks or dark jokes.
Steven is survived by his parents, Maher Fawzi Nakhla and Dorothy Carol (Whitely) Nakhla; his adored wife of 22 years Jennifer Nakhla; his son Carter Nakhla and daughter Abigail Nakhla; many extended family members; and his precious goldendoodle Jarvis, who was by his side until the very end. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Nakhla.
A small graveside burial will be held for Steven’s close family. There will be a celebration of life planned at a later date with more details to be announced via CaringBridge (https://url.caringbridge.org/ONtzeK). Others wishing to recognize Steven’s legacy may make a donation to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Cancer Center (https://secure.jhu.edu/form/children).
