Sara L. Cornett, age 91, of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025. Born on June 27, 1934, in Westernport, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Leo Calvin Wilt and Enid Lucretia (Warnick) Wilt and stepdaughter of the late William Putnam. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles “Chuck” Ray Cornett, with whom she shared 73 years of marriage.
Sara worked for 31 years as a seamstress with Gleneagle Manufacturing Co. in Bel Air and was a proud member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Alongside her best friend Nancy, she also ran an alteration business, even providing alteration services for McComas Funeral Home in Abingdon. Sara took great pride in sewing projects for her family and extended family, always sharing her gifts with those she loved.
She was a Life Member of the Jarrettsville VFW Post 8672. In her free time, Sara enjoyed watching soap operas and game shows, cheering for her beloved Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and surrounding herself with her family, who meant everything to her. She especially loved daisies, which brought her joy throughout her life.
Sara is survived by her three loving daughters, Terry Vanover, Lora Batts, and Diane “Lucretia” Daughtry and her husband John; sister, Patsy Cochran; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cornett; son, Tom Cornett; daughter, Charlotte Crouse; grandchildren, Edith (Vanover) Geller and Brett Burkins; parents, Leo Wilt and Enid Wilt; stepfather, William Putnam; and sons-in-law, Paul Cooper, Sr., Charles Crouse, Edward Vanover, Sr., and James Batts, Jr.
