Sadie Lorene Darnell

Sadie Lorene Darnell, age 90, of Street, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. She was born in Jefferson, North Carolina, to the late F. Winston and Johnsie (Brooks) Atwood.

 Sadie was the beloved wife of the late Bransom A. Darnell, Sr. Together, they shared a rich life, including ownership of Darnell Jewelers in Bel Air for over 50 years, a beloved local establishment. The couple also owned and operated Darnell's Restaurant on Main Street in Delta, PA, which they ran from its opening in 1954 until 1962.

 After graduating from high school, Sadie moved to Washington, DC, where she worked in the FBI's fingerprint department. She was a former member of the Church of the Pilgrims in Washington, DC, and had attended Highland Presbyterian Church before becoming homebound.

 Sadie had a love for reading, gardening, and putting puzzles together, and she cherished spending time with her family. Her warm spirit and dedication to her community will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Sadie is survived by her daughter, Robin E. (James) Bowen; sons, Bransom A. (Steva)Darnell, Jr., F. James Darnell; grandchildren, Alexandra Bowen, Samantha (Dan) Moyer, Tony (Kathryn) Testerman, Capri (Vince) DiGiovanni, Justin Darnell, Stephanie (Shaun) Prevette; great-grandchildren, Myles, Bella, Kylie, Ryker, Ciena, Roman, Luca & Greyleigh. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Atwood Bandy, Betty Ann Kirk and Madgelene Webb.
