Ruth Janet Komenda, affectionately known to her loved ones as "Dupey," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland, at the age of 95.
Born in Baltimore, MD, Ruth was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Wagner and the late Ethel (Waller) Wagner. She was the devoted wife of the late John Joseph Komenda, with whom she shared a loving marriage and raised a large and close-knit family.
Ruth was a dedicated and gentle mother of seven children: John Komenda and his wife Debbie, Jerry Komenda and his late wife Cathy, Kathy Komenda Scilipoti and her husband Mario, Philip Komenda and his wife Patricia, Tom Komenda, and Michael Komenda and his companion Nicole Tamburello and Larry's wife Annette. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Larry Komenda and by her brother, George Wagner.
She was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren: Christin, Jeff, Larry, Kevin, David, Lauren, Thomas, Tony, Phillip, and Luke; and a cherished great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren.
Known for her sharp wit and warm heart, Ruth had a passion for word games and could often be found completing the New York Times Crossword Puzzle with ease. A true wordsmith and crossword enthusiast, she loved challenging board games and treasured time spent with her family above all else. Her kind and gentle spirit left an impression on everyone she met—always thought of as sweet, kind, and passive in the most loving way.
In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Ruth held a variety of jobs over the years, including credit counseling and working at GBMC hospital working diligently until retirement. She was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles and enjoyed Maryland steamed crabs, a cherished birthday tradition she continued almost every year until the age of 92.
