Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rodney “Rod” S. Dyess U.S. Army, Retired, age 80, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on June 15, 2023 at his home in Abingdon. Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on December 30, 1942, he was the son of the late SGM Julian O. Dyess, a career soldier and Lavern Ruth (Patrick) Dyess, a homemaker. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he served for 26 years. His overseas assignments included six tours to Vietnam, two to Korea and three to Germany. He retired as a US Army CW4 Officer and Program Manager with Raytheon.
While stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, he met his lovely wife to be and best friend forever, Ursula H. (Radicke) Dyess. They met in February 1964, and were married in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in June of that year. Recently they celebrated 59 years of blissful marriage.
After retiring from the Army in 1985, Rodney and Ursula moved to Maryland where he was employed by Allied Signal/Raytheon, residing in Abingdon. Rodney served in many supervisory/management positions that spanned another 26 years.
Rodney loved to shop and travel with Ursula, mostly to Europe, Arizona, and Hawaii. He enjoyed home improvements, and sitting on his deck with good company, good food and good beer.
Rodney is survived by his son, Mark (Karol) Dyess of Stewartstown, PA; and daughter, Annette S. Dyess of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Matthew, Tasha, Simone, Sidney and Brianne; and his faithful companion, his dog, Lucky.
In addition to his parents Rodney is preceded by his brother, Stephen Dyess.
