Roberta “Bobbie” Anne Cockey (née Rader), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of her family in Towson, Maryland. Born in Baltimore on March 15, 1945, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Peter Rader and Freda Estelle (Nauman) Flury.
Bobbie shared 53 years of love, partnership and adventure with her devoted husband, Edward “Ned” A. Cockey. They first met in high school, where Ned admired Bobbie as the smart, pretty girl, while she saw him as the guy with the old car. Years later, after reconnecting at their five-year reunion, they began a journey together that would last a lifetime.
She was a dedicated and loving mother to Rebecca Blue and Stephen Cockey, and his wife Debra. As a grandmother, she found immense joy in doting on Ayda Blue, and Evan and Andrew Cockey. She is also survived by her brother, R. Timothy Rader, and his fiancée, Frances Butcher.
Before her marriage, Bobbie nurtured young minds as an English teacher at Perry Hall Junior High School. Later, she found deep fulfillment in volunteering as a tutor within Harford County Schools. A faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church, she participated in the choir and a weekly crafting group. Bobbie had a love for reading, quilting, staying active, and treasuring time with family and friends. Her happiest moments were spent outdoors, whether embarking on cross-country camping adventures or enjoying boating days with Ned.
Bobbie will always be remembered for her gentle heart, kind spirit, and steadfast devotion to those she loved.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sweet Air, located at 3911 Sweet Air Road, Phoenix, MD 21131. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM and a luncheon directly after.
