Robert William Betzing, age 89, of Forest Hill, MD, passed away on September 15, 2014 at Brightview Assisted Living in Towson, MD. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Clarence and Eleanor Strang Betzing and the husband of Betty June Betzing. Bob and Betty recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They met in the summer of 1938 while vacationing at their family homes on Anchor Bay off Lake St. Clair at the age of 13. During WWII, Bob entered the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific while Betty supported our troops through the efforts of the local USO and at Selfridge Air Field. They were married in 1947 and made their home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Bob earned his degree in Pharmacy and worked at a Cunningham Drug Store as a Pharmacist. In 1951, he joined E.R. Squibb & Sons as a pharmaceutical detail representative. Betty was active in the Grosse Pointe Presbyterian Church and served in various leadership positions. In 1959, Bob was promoted and transferred to Squibb's Headquarters in New York City. Bob and Betty and their two children made their home in Larchmont, New York for the next 12 years. Bob became the Vice President of Sales for Glenbrook Laboratory maker of Bayer Aspirin and other health care products. Bob and Betty then moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. Betty was able to further her artistic talents as a painter, gardener and interior designer when not travelling with Bob. In 1977, he was named as the Vice President of Sales for Combe Incorporated and later became the President of Premier Sales and Distribution. Upon retirement, they moved to Forest Hill to be near their son. Bob is a Master Mason and is a member of Harford County's local Masonic Lodge. Bob and Betty travelled extensively on business and pleasure but their favorite place in the world has always been Chatham, Massachusetts on Cape Cod where they still maintain a home. Bob and Betty have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who live on the east coast from Florida to New York City.
