Obituary

Robert “Bob/Pop” Stoots, age 83, of Maryland, was carried to his heavenly home by his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late Raymond Mose Stoots and Pressie Lorene (Vannoy) Stoots. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Stoots, Jr.; his sister, Martha Stoots; and his great-grandchild, Baby Nichols.

Bob was the beloved husband of Nancy Carroll Stoots, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Kimberly (William) Hughey, Anthony Stoots (Lisa Battaglia), and Sherry (James) Mays. He was a cherished grandfather to Brady (Melissa) Hughey, Abby (George) Skinner, and Sarah (Tyler) Nichols, and a proud great-grandfather to Robbie and Landon Skinner, and Charlotte and Harvey Hughey.

Around the age of 17, Bob began attending Friendship Baptist Church with Nancy, where he first heard the Word of God preached. On January 17, 1960, he accepted Christ as his Savior. After their marriage, they joined Trappe Baptist Church, where Bob grew in faith and in his knowledge of God’s Word. He taught Sunday School, played guitar in church, and was ordained as a deacon in 1976. Together, he and his family faithfully served and enjoyed singing and playing gospel music.

Later, Bob and his family moved to Emmorton Baptist Church, where he remained a dedicated and faithful member until his passing. He served as a deacon from the late 1990s onward and continued to share his love of music by playing guitar—an instrument he had enjoyed since the age of 16.

Bob grew up on a farm in the Whiteford area, where his father worked as a dairy farmer. Following in his father’s footsteps, Bob managed his own dairy farm beginning in 1963. In 1984, he transitioned from farming to a career in commercial driving. From 2014 to 2024, he drove for Moxley Bus Company, serving Harford County Public Schools.

He had a passion for gardening and was known for his green thumb, growing a wide variety of vegetables. He also enjoyed attending tractor pulls at The Buck and took great pride in restoring a 1940 Farmall H tractor with his grandson Brady in 2009. He went on to compete with it at the Harford County Farm Fair for several years.

Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. Nothing meant more to him than his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He found great joy in having everyone together under one roof—moments filled with laughter, stories, and simply being together. His strong faith, kind spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be remembered always.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Emmorton Baptist Life Center
