It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Novotny, a beloved father and cherished grandfather, who departed this world on May 10, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland. Robert was born on December 5, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, and led a life characterized by hard work and dedication.
As a proud steelworker at Bethlehem Steel, Robert exemplified the grit and determination of his generation. He forged a legacy not defined by academic accolades, but by the fervent love he had for his family and the unwavering commitment he showed in providing for them. His hands, weathered from years of labor, were always ready to lend a helping hand or share a moment of warmth and kindness.
Robert is survived by his devoted children, Joseph Novotny, Dana Novotny and her partner William Reed and Katy Courtois and her husband Gregory Courtois, who carry forward his spirit and values. He was a cherished grandfather to Luke, Shane, Summer, and Chloe Courtois, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride, and his lifelong friend John Schaller. Each of them carries a piece of his heart and a legacy that will continue to bloom in their lives.
In addition to his parents Antoine (Mike) and Hilda Novotny (Kessler), and wife of 51 years, Dorothy Novotny, Robert was preceded in death by his twin sister Elizabeth Haas, and eldest Marilyn Derda.
In this time of loss, we invite all who knew and loved Robert to join us in reminiscing about a life well-lived life filled with laughter, love, and resilience. May his spirit continue to shine brightly in our hearts as we remember the indelible mark he has left on each of us.
