Robert E. Capece, age 95, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on September 24, 2022 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Maryland. Known as Dad, Poppop, Dino and many other fond nicknames, he was loved by so many. If you knew him, you know how much he loved his family and how proud he was of them. You could see that pride in his beautiful smile. Like his family, his special group of friends were such a huge part of his life and a key part of his fountain of youth! His shared life experiences, sense of humor, old stories, and loving ways made all of us who we are today.
Born in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John and Armida (Mucci) Capece. He joined the U.S. Navy before graduation in May 1945 and served stateside in Pensacola, FL. He always said it was on the "USS NeverSail," but he eagerly enlisted because of his love for our country. After the Navy, he married his hometown sweetheart relocating to Maryland in 1949 for work and to start his beautiful family. He took a job at Sparrows Point, working for the railroad of Bethlehem Steel (PBRRR) and retired in 1982.
Since retirement 40 years ago, he has spent his time doing things for and with his family. He never missed going to any of his grandchildren's games whether it was soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, football, lacrosse or volleyball, from T-ball to college ball. Because of these activities, he was "Poppop" to so many people. He was especially proud to see all five grandchildren graduate from college which meant so much to him. Over the years, he's enjoyed everyday the way we all should. These past eleven years were special, thanks to his Claudia and their Legion family. They all did so much together, traveling, dinners, fundraisers and so much more. A very special group that always kept a smile on his face!
Bob was a man who never met a stranger. And the beautiful legacy he built will continue to live on through his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 58 years, June (Church) Capece, daughter-in-law Karla Capece, son-in-law Richard (Tom) Dougherty and sister Eleanor Jones.
Robert is survived by his loving life partner, Claudia Blosser of Bel Air Md, his daughter, Robin Capece Dougherty ; son, Terry Robert Capece; grandchildren, Matthew (Casey) Capece, Ryan (Stephanie) Dougherty, AJ (Stacey) Capece, Caitlin (Alex) Matos and Lauren (Devin Bell) Capece. His great grandchildren: Gavin, Kieran, Caleigh, Posie, Calder, Cory, Molly, Finola and Kane.
