Rita Benzick, age 93, formerly of Edgewood, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida.

Born in Germany, Rita was the beloved daughter of the late Ferdinand Weis and the late Anna Veronika (Dies) Weis. She was the devoted wife of the late Walter Benzick, Jr., with whom she shared many years of love and companionship.

Rita was a former member of Post Chapel at Edgewood Arsenal and enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout her life. She found great joy in gardening, crafts, crocheting, cooking and creating doll clothes. Her creativity, kindness, and dedication to her family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Walter Benzick, Jr., Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Ana Weis, and her sisters: Berta Wolz, Gertrud Theiler & Maria Seidl.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Erika Riley and her husband, Michael; Isabella Cunkelman and her husband, John, and her son Michael Benzick. She was a cherished grandmother to Eva Marie Benzick, Stephanie Ann Benzick, John “Jack” Cunkelman, Jr., Veronica Cunkelman, and Joseph Cunkelman. Rita is also survived by her sister, Irene Dobler, and her brother, Erwin Weis, along with many other loving family members and friends.
