Richard Paul Wischhusen, Jr., age 83, of Jarrettsville, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Richard Paul Wischhusen, Sr. and Mary Wilamena (Kalb) Wischhusen of Dundalk, Maryland.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including a deployment in the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his service, he built a long and successful career, first with Bethlehem Steel, where he applied the electronics training he received in the military, and later with Unilever and Continental Can managing the operation and maintenance of filling and packing line equipment. He also shared his expertise in electronics as an instructor at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School, a Merchant Marine academy, where he taught shipboard automation.
On January 26, 1963, Richard married his beloved wife, Ellen Joan Wischhusen, and together they shared 62 years of devoted marriage. Richard will be remembered as a man who loved working with his hands. He was a talented wood carver, could fix just about anything, and enjoyed the challenge of solving a good jigsaw puzzle. He was also an avid photographer with a 35 mm film camera.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Wischhusen, his brother, George Wischhusen, and his sisters Mary Michalski and Hellen Riffey
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Wischhusen; his children, Carl Wischhusen (Donald Garmon), Andrea (Paul) Roberts, and Glen (Kathy) Wischhusen; and grandchildren, Vivian Roberts, Juliana Roberts, Jack Wischhusen, and Max Wischhusen.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 12:00 PM at McComas Celebration of Life Center, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery.
