Richard J. McCarthy

Richard J. McCarthy, age 89, of Belcamp, Maryland, passed away on September 17, 2024, at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Maryland. Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (McKenna) McCarthy and the beloved husband of Janice M. (Lilly) McCarthy.

Richard was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and held a deep pride in his Irish heritage. As a devoted Catholic, he was known for his unwavering faith and commitment to his family. Richard and Janice also became and lived their lives as Third Order Franciscans for many years. Richard and Janice were married for 67 years, and he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his faith, his strong sense of duty, the pleasure he received when telling stories, especially about his time in the Navy and his enduring love for his Irish roots. 

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughters, Kristie McCarthy of Belcamp, MD, Lisa Reinhart and spouse Allen of Bernville, PA, Teri Cessna and spouse Kelly of Jarrettsville, MD, Shawn Wenig of Timonium, MD, and daughter-in-law Kimberly McCarthy of Eastern Shore, MD. He will also be remembered by 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by son, Richard B. McCarthy, brother, John McCarthy, baby brother Eugene McCarthy, and son in law George K. Wenig.
