Richard "Dick" William Doyle

May 22, 1934 — October 24, 2025

Richard “Dick” W. Doyle, Sr., 91, of Fallston, Maryland, passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Jarrettsville, MD on Friday, October 24, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late William Gabriel Doyle, Jr., and the late Dorothy Anna (Cole) Doyle. Richard was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Ann (Barto) Doyle. They shared a lifetime together, through thick and thin, raising 6 children along the way. He loved his family more than anyone could know. He became the caregiver for his wife, Shirley, when she became ill in 2015 until her death in 2021.

He was a proud United States Army veteran and a longtime member of Fallston United Methodist Church. Richard earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1968, where all five of his children attended his graduation (the youngest wasn’t born yet). He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a mechanical design engineer with AAI Corporation, where he retired after many years of dedicated service. Among his many accomplishments, he was instrumental in designing the RDF Lightweight Tank, which was deployed and utilized around the world. After retirement he worked as a consultant and land developer of Taylor Farm Estates. He was always busy and never seemed to have enough time.

Richard was an avid gardener who took great pride in his large garden. He loved mowing the lawn and he was an avid Orioles fan. He also loved to golf and participated in an annual golf tournament with his two sons, and grandson, Rob. He and his wife Shirley were passionate travelers, visiting memorable destinations such as Hawaii, Jamaica, Niagara Falls, the Canadian Rockies, Bar Harbor, Maine, Branson, Missouri, and many other destinations. One of the most cherished vacations was a trip to Ireland where 9 family members were able to join them for 15 days. The Doyle family shared countless memories at the family beach home in Bethany Beach, Delaware, where Richard loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Conrad Doyle; his sister, Dolores Cox; his granddaughter, Melissa Klotzbeecher and his son-in-law, Michael Mink. He is survived by his loving children, Jennifer Staton, Deborah (Walter) Shope, Susan (Bill) Foard, Elizabeth Mink, Richard (Joanne) Doyle, Jr., and Stephen (Jamie) Doyle. He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Doyle; sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, Steve, Justin, Reese, Blythe, Daniel, Katie, Bre, JB, Ashley, Ean, Maggie, his loving care-giver, and many other relatives including nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be: Ben Foard, Joshua Mink, Charlie Foard, Robert Foard, Bryan Doyle and Kevin Doyle. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Doyle and Kaiden Staton. The rest of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be part of the honorary procession to honor their grandfather:

Andrew Shope (not in attendance), Rebekah Locken, Emily Wojcik, Rachel Bergstrom, Lauren Cole, Stacy Staton, Shelby Baynes, Kerri Berringer, Erin Doyle, Josh Staton, Danica Peters, Logan Peters, Iya Locken, Evelyn Locken, Wesley Foard, Judson Shope, Claire Baynes, Rory Foard, Conrad Foard, Willow Foard, Henry Shope, and Oliver Baynes.
