Richard “Dick” Edward Bishop, age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Born in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, Dick was the beloved son of the late Irvin Regis Bishop and the late Jane Frances (Burns) Bishop.
Dick was the devoted husband of Stella Helen (Wojtarowicz) Bishop and was blessed to share 66 years of marriage with his best friend and lifelong partner.
A proud veteran, Dick honorably served his country before embarking on a distinguished career in education. After graduating from St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania, he moved to Bel Air in 1962. He earned his Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and dedicated his entire professional career to the Harford County Public School System. Dick became a respected educator and administrator who made a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues. He had the unique distinction of serving as the first principal of both Prospect Mill Elementary School and William S. James Elementary School, helping to establish strong foundations for both schools and their communities.
Dick was a devoted parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory, where his faith remained an important part of his life. Outside of his professional and church commitments, he enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was also a loyal fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens and enjoyed following their seasons with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Bishop.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Stella Helen (Wojtarowicz) Bishop; his son, Richard Bishop and his wife, Geri; his son, James Bishop and his wife, Angie; his daughter, Christy Sebring and her husband, Scott; his grandchildren, Lanie Feerrar, Natalie Bishop, Kendall Bishop, Alison Krause, Daniel Bishop, David Bishop, Matthew Bishop, Joshua Bishop, Blake Sebring, and Brian Sebring; and many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
