Obituary

Paul R. Penner, age 79, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Born in Fort Lewis, Washington, Paul was the son of the late Ralph Penner and the late Louise (née Will) Penner.

Paul was the beloved husband of Carol Penner (née Hatter), with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with love, companionship, and shared interests.

A proud veteran, Paul served in the Maryland Army National Guard. Throughout his career, he worked as an airplane mechanic for a government contractor specializing in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. He also assisted with firefighting efforts at Aberdeen Proving Ground. His passion for aviation extended beyond his profession, as he was both a private pilot and a licensed FAA aircraft mechanic.

Paul had a lifelong fascination with planes and trains and took great joy in supporting and admiring his wife's beautiful gardens. He was an active member of the Mason Dixon Large Scale Train Club and was also a member of American Legion Post #39 in Bel Air.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Carol Penner; his daughter, Linda Mitchell and her husband, Robert; his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell, and Katie Mitchell; and his sister, Janet Gundlach.
