Nelson L.
Barth
September 16, 1936 – May 4, 2026
Nelson L. Barth, age 89, of Joppa, Maryland, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, after a brief illness. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the oldest child of the late Nelson, Sr. and Ann (Grieb) Barth. A devoted husband, he was married to the late Patricia Barth for 66 years.
Nelson is survived by his loving children, Mary Ann (Glenn) Melrose, Thomas (Laurey) Barth, Greg (Kim) Barth, and Robin Barth. He was an adoring grandfather to Julianne (Mark) Green, Blake (Lindsay) Miller, Michael (Samantha Klein) Melrose, Aaron (Heather) Melrose, Robert Miller, Stephaney Barth, Matthew Barth, Bradley Barth, Caroline Barth, Gregory Miller, and Anna Barth; great-grandchildren, Anna and Avery Green, Barrett, Brody, and Bennett Miller, and Paxton, Lennox, and Arthur Melrose. He is also survived by his siblings, Anthony (the late Catherine) Barth, Ann (Stanley) Gabriszeski, Carol (Robert) Bivens, Susan (Michael) Piunti, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion (Joseph) Sarzynski and grandson, Johnny Miller.
Nelson proudly retired in 1991 from Ironworkers Local #16 after 30 years of dedicated service with the union. Until his death, he lived independently on his small farm with his dog and companion, Buddy. He was an avid animal lover, especially fond of horses and ponies, which he showed and bred for many years. Nelson and Patricia were actively involved with the Pony of the Americas Club. They spent many years with the club traveling throughout the country and enjoying their time together. With their family, they created lasting memories on their farm when hosting holiday gatherings, barbecues, crab feasts, and endless sleepovers with their grandkids. He will be remembered and most missed for being an active and proud "Pop!”
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www2.jdrf.org) in honor of his grandson, Johnny Miller.
