Obituary

Nancy Ellen Lockwood Nicodemus, of Jarrettsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, at Stella Maris Hospice. She was married to the late William (Bill) Gaver Nicodemus for 62 years; a lifelong partnership built on steadfast love and support.

Nancy is survived by her son, Todd Nicodemus (Roxanne) of Millsboro, Delaware, and her daughter Bonnie Nicodemus Suther (Chip) of Mooresville, North Carolina. She was proud of her grandchildren: John Suther of Charleston South Carolina, Andrew Suther of Austin Texas, Will Nicodemus of Madisonville Louisiana, and Isabel Nicodemus of Covington Louisiana, each of whom brought light, laughter, and great joy into her life. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret “Marge” Lockwood Thomas (the late Joe Thomas), with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering sister support.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Margaret Lockwood, and her sister, Virginia Lockwood Barber. She was also preceded in death by her very special nephews, Michael, and Jeffrey Dilutis.

Earlier in life, Nancy found happiness in simple daily pleasures- hot tea every morning while reading Reader’s Digest cover to cover, nightly walks around the Jarrettsville Sportsplex, faithful attendance at all of Bonnie’s sporting events while Bill often coached. She found pleasure in teaching her grandchildren 500 Rummy and how to play her living room piano, as well as vacationing with family in Bethany Beach, Delaware.

In her later years, she enjoyed weekly church service and bingo at Broad Creek Assisted Living, and more recently participated in church services and daily activities at BrightView Assisted Living in Bel Air, Maryland.

Those fortunate enough to know Nancy will always remember her for her genuine kindness, devotion to her family, and the grace she brought to every stage of life. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love and cherished memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
