Obituary

Nancy Lee Gibson, née Clawson, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in Forest Hill, Maryland, at the age of 87.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 29, 1939, Nancy was the daughter of Clarence Clawson, Sr. and Olivia Clawson. She attended Maryland State Teachers College, now Towson University, and devoted her life to caring for others as both a nursery school teacher and a homemaker.

In October 1959, she married Scott K. Gibson, Jr. Their marriage endured for more than sixty-four years until his passing in May 2024. Together they built a family that was the source of Nancy’s greatest joy and pride.

Nancy is survived by her children, Erica Kammer; Scott K. Gibson III and his wife, Kathy; James D. Gibson and his wife, Celeste; Terrence D. Gibson (spouse, Jennifer, deceased); and Timothy K. Gibson. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney, Scott IV, Robert, Stuart, Lauren, Olivia, William, Ian, Patrick, Liam, and Colin; and by her two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ann Sibley. She is further survived by her brothers, Thomas Clawson (Sandra) and David Clawson (Mary), and by her sister, Eileen Sharkey (Robert, deceased).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott K. Gibson, Jr.; her parents, Clarence Clawson, Sr. and Olivia Clawson; and her brother, Clarence Clawson, Jr.

Nancy was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Maryland. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Throughout her life, she exemplified dedication to her family, a strong work ethic, and unwavering faith.

She found pleasure in gardening, caring for animals, especially cats, dogs, and birds, and reading, with a particular fondness for British mysteries. Among the many lessons she imparted to her children and grandchildren, none was more enduring than the importance of scholarship, diligence, and striving to do one’s best in school.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1 St. Mary’s Church Road, Abingdon, Maryland 21009. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Paul A. Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047 at harfordshelter.org.

Nancy’s life was marked by faith, devotion, kindness, and love. Her family will forever cherish her example and the many happy memories she leaves behind. May she rest in peace.
