MSG Grant Loring Starcher, age 79, of Northeast, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Perry Point, MD.
Grant was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Eppa Loring Starcher and Leratha (Crosby) Starcher, both of whom preceded him in death.
Grant was the beloved husband of Huichon (Kang) Starcher, and they shared 46 years of marriage together. He was a devoted father to G. Erik Starcher, David Starcher and his wife Paula, and James Starcher. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua Starcher, whose accomplishments brought him great joy.
Grant honorably served his country in the United States Army, enlisting on two separate occasions. His first period of service was from 1966 to 1968, during which he served honorably in Vietnam. He reenlisted from 1971 to 1989, serving deployments in Korea and Germany (twice). Grant achieved the rank of E-8, serving as a Battalion Master Sergeant for Field Artillery. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Good Conduct Medals. One of the things Grant wanted everyone to know was how deeply proud he was of his military service.
Following his military career, Grant worked as a welder at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), where he advanced to the position of welding instructor.
Throughout his life, Grant lived and traveled in Pennsylvania, Las Vegas, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Nürnberg, Germany, experiences that shaped his strong character and appreciation for life.
Grant’s proudest personal moment was when his grandson earned his Eagle Scout, an achievement that meant a great deal to him. In his leisure time, Grant enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, BBQ-ing, spring yard work, making model airplanes, and relaxing while watching television.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
