Minnie "Min" Bator

Minnie “Min” Bator, age 93, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Born in York Haven, Pennsylvania, Min was the beloved daughter of the late Beatrice Marie (Kohler) Shipley and Walter Stanford Shipley. She was the devoted wife of the late John “Jake” Carl Bator.

In addition to her husband and parents, Min was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Brett Riordan; her sister, Armeda Leiby; her brother, Edward Shipley; and her cherished grandchild, Timothy “Jake” Riordan.

Min is survived by her loving children, Jenny Jones and her husband Eric, and John Bator and his husband Brian. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kelly Jones and Max Jones, who brought her great joy.

Min dedicated her professional life to education, retiring in 1990 after many years with Harford County Public Schools. She served as a schoolteacher at Bel Air Elementary School and Hickory Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students. She was a faithful member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church and generously gave her time as a volunteer with Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and the American Cancer Society.

In her leisure time, Min enjoyed playing bridge, playing tennis in her younger years, spending time at Maryland Golf & Country Club, and working around her yard—activities that reflected her active spirit and love of the outdoors.
