Michael Christian Hinder, age 64, of Darlington, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Forest Hill, Maryland.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Michael was the beloved son of the late John Carroll Hinder and the late Carolyn Mildred (Lindenstruth) Hinder. He was preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Hinder.
Family was Michael’s pride and focus throughout his life. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to so many. He shared 36 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tracy Hinder. The couple met while she was visiting her father at a car sale in Aberdeen, and the two married soon after meeting. Together, they built a beautiful family that meant everything to Michael.
A proud Catholic, Michael cherished his family above all else. He lived his entire life in Darlington, a community he loved deeply and was proud to call home. He was very involved in his community and formed lifelong friendships throughout his life, including many friendships made while attending Lynchburg College.
Michael was a second-generation car dealership owner and worked alongside his family at their Ford dealership. The family business began in 1960 and continued through October 2020. His work was an important part of his life, but his family always remained his greatest priority.
Michael loved thoroughbred racing and spent many summer trips with his family traveling to different racetracks to watch the horse races. He had a lifelong love of horses, having grown up owning horses with his family. He also enjoyed golfing, shooting pool with anyone who wandered into their inviting home, playing cards with friends, rooting on the Ravens and finishing the night with a scoop of Haagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream.
Above all, Michael loved his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends were his world. He leaves behind a beautiful family and a legacy of love, devotion, friendship, and community. Mike could always be counted on for a belly laughing one liner, a game of pool in the basement, and a big bright smile that was contagious.
Michael is survived by his sons, Mike Hinder and his wife, Natalie, Christopher Hinder and his wife, Olivia, and Jack Hinder and his wife, Angela; his grandchildren, Hayden Hinder and Penny Hinder; his brothers, John “Chris” Hinder Jr. and his wife, Donna, Jeff Hinder and his wife, Eileen, and Steven “Beaver” Hinder and his wife, Mary Pat; and his sisters, Lisa Jendrek and her husband, Paul, Kim Bartow and her husband, Ted, Tracy Hinder, and Kelly Haggerty and her husband, Dan. He is also survived by many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in recognition of Mike to Bob Hooper House https://www.umms.org/uch/locations/senator-bob-hooper-hospice-house or the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/
Michael will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His greatest joy was the family he created and loved so completely, and the memories he leaves behind will be cherished forever.
Leaving everyone with a lyric from Michael’s favorite artist, Tom Petty and the Wildflowers Album:
It's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going
