Michael D. Bass, age 79, of Joppa Maryland, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Rosedale, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Elwood Odell Bass and Ruthie Irene (Howell) Bass.

Michael shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Margaret Carter Bass. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Michael treasured his family above all else. He also had a special place in his heart for his English bulldogs.

After graduating from the University of Maryland, Mike dedicated 31 years of service to the Baltimore City Police Department, retiring in 2003 with the rank of Major. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in numerous roles within the department, including spokesman for the BCPD, assistant director of the police academy, and commander of the Northern District. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 161st Session.

A veteran of the Maryland National Guard, Michael proudly served his country and community. He attended Salem United Methodist Church.

Mike and Marge cherished spending time at their vacation home in Ocean View, Delaware, where they enjoyed over 25 years of sunny days on the beach together. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan and proudly held Ravens season tickets for 20 years. He enjoyed countless wonderful times with family and friends celebrating holidays, taking vacations, and living his life to the fullest.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marge; daughters, Christine Bass (Matthew Stangle) and Jacquelyn Bass (Scott Johnson); granddaughter, Madeline Stangle; brother-in-law Robert (Patricia) Carter; and nephew David (Lauren) Bass.

In addition to his parents, Elwood and Ruthie Bass, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, John (Vy) Bass.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center for the care and compassion Mike received while in their care.
