Sunrise for Mazie Deliverance was October 7, 1937. She was the beloved daughter of the late Franklin C. and Lealer B. Ambush. Her grandparents were the late Walter T. and Mazie D. Peaker (nee Gibson). Peacefully, after a long illness, the sun set on January 5, 2024.
Mazie was the oldest of five children, two sisters and two brothers. She grew up in Jarrettsville, MD. Mazie, also known as “Henry” to her siblings, graduated from Central Consolidated, Hickory, MD, and attended the University of Maryland School of Nursing, College Park. MD. Even though she did not graduate from the university, she pursued a career in the medical field as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
Mazie was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Joppa, MD, until it was closed by the Methodist Conference. Mazie met and married Richard I. Flichman and from this union two sons were born, Richard Irvin (Ricky/Rick) and Douglas Nathaniel (Dougie/Doug).
For many years, she worked as a dedicated and compassionate CNA at Brevin’s Nursing Home, Havre de Grace, MD, and other medical facilities in Harford and Cecil Counties. Henry also provided private care for patients in their homes. She loved her patients and they returned that love by giving her gifts and staying in touch with her.
Mazie was an avid reader of romance novels and loved all music genres, but her favorites were rock and roll, gospel, and jazz. She took great pride in her vinyl collection. Playing board games such as Pokeno, Monopoly, and Bingo brought her joy. Dressing fashionably was her style. Henry loved to gamble and she was really skilled at it. Her favorites were bingo, horse racing, scratch offs, and casinos. To aid her in selecting winning horses, she studied their lineages, jockey histories, and stats. Her dream books and the calendar where she recorded the winning numbers from inception of the lottery afforded her success. She enjoyed interacting with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
One thing everyone knew about Mazie was her ability to talk incessantly. Someone even said jokingly that “she would talk to a tree, if it could talk back”. At times, she was affectionately referred to as “mouth almighty, tongue everlasting”.
After retiring, Mazie moved to Hanover, PA to live with Rick and his family. She remained active by traveling, joining a community center, participating in family events, and spending time with family and friends.
Mazie fought a good fight. She was unique, spirited, and lived life as she chose. Rest in peace, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, mom, and grandmother, where no shadows fall!!!
Mazie leaves to celebrate her life and memory: son Rick, daughter-in-law Tonya, siblings Robert, Hope, and Franklin, grandsons Gary and Greg, nieces Sandy, Jada, and Trudy, nephews Everett and Franklin, great-nieces Chante, Sierra, and Courtney, great-nephews Ajani, Chase, Kaden, and Amir, and other relatives. Mazie was predeceased by her sister SaraJane (Jane), son Dougie, and nephew Robbie.
