Max E.
Foster
August 2, 1931 – April 6, 2026
Max E. Foster, age 94, of Churchville, Maryland, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Born in Blacksburg, South Carolina, Max was the son of the late William Erastus Foster and Ethel Mae (Huffstetler) Foster. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Ann (Walton) Foster.
Max proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran. He was a man who valued hard work, fairness, and helping others. He loved spending time outdoors, especially tending to his vegetable garden and maintaining his yard. Max took great pride in growing grapevines and making homemade jelly, which he shared with his family every Christmas. A natural tinkerer, he enjoyed fixing things and could always find a way to make something work. He also enjoyed visiting yard sales and was known for his sense of humor.
Above all, Max was a devoted father and grandfather. He believed in teaching his daughters and grandchildren to be independent, always encouraging them to learn how to do things for themselves. His guidance and values left a lasting impact on his family.
Max is survived by his loving daughters, Kay (Chuck) Belzner and Michele Bush (Chester Johnson), his grandchildren Kristen, Brandon (Ceda), Juliana, Kayla (Austin), Chelsea (Nick) and Dylan; 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Janet Carper and dear friend Dot Pritt. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson-in-law Doug.
In lieu of flowers, contributions made be made to UNC Health Foundation, 123 W Franklin Street, Suite 510, Chapel Hill NC 27516 or online at give.unc.edu/hfdonate?t=foster. If sending a check, please note “Foster Fund #346183” to support their pediatric orthopedic education fund.
The family would like to thank the staff of Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living for their care during Max’s final months.
