Matthew Robert Peters, age 38, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Matthew was the beloved son of Bob Peters, Jr. and Joy (Balsley) Peters.
Matthew was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son and brother, and a true family man. A go-getter by nature, he approached life with enthusiasm and determination. Above all else, his family was at the center of his world. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Emily, and the best father to his children, Grace Kathleen and Clark Matthew, who brought tremendous joy and meaning to his life.
Patriotic and spiritual, Matthew had a deep appreciation for his country and its history. A true history buff, he was especially fascinated by military history and enjoyed talking with veterans and hearing about their experiences. His love of history was matched by his talent for pop culture trivia, particularly when it came to movies.
Matthew enjoyed sports in many forms. He was a lacrosse player and played golf whenever he had the opportunity. Whether attending a soccer game or cheering on Ohio State football from home, he loved the excitement of the game. He was also a video game and gun enthusiast.
Music was another important part of Matthew’s life. He enjoyed all types of music and was known for creating countless playlists. He also appreciated a good bourbon and especially loved the fall season. He looked forward to fall activities and decorating for the season and found great enjoyment in nature’s scenery, particularly mountains surrounded by colorful autumn leaves.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Emily Peters; daughter, Grace Kathleen Peters; son, Clark Matthew Peters; beloved family dog, “Frankie”; father, Bob Peters, Jr.; mother, Joy Peters; sisters, Allison (Chris) Mills and Leslie (Brian) Miller; father-in-law, Brian Petz; mother-in-law, Deborah Petz; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Ashley) Petz, Josh Petz; sister-in-law, Ashley (Josh) Caldrone; and his nieces and nephews, Ashley, Ryan, Andrew, Sarah, Daniel, Haley, Brooke, Hannah, Kyle, Harper, Mason, Hadley, Hattie, Gavin, and Addison.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Inez Balsley, and his paternal grandparents, Robert Peters, Sr. and Dorothy Peters.
Matthew will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his patriotic and spiritual nature, his many interests, and the enthusiasm he brought to the people and things he loved most.
