Marymartha Elizabeth Whiting, age 78, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 surrounded by her family after a brave fight with breast cancer. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Moreck and the late Sophia (Bedisky) Moreck.

Marymartha was the beloved wife of Lawrence (Larry) Derland Whiting III, with whom she shared nearly 55 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted mother to Laura Whiting and Joy (Duane) Brisson, and a proud and loving grandmother to Charles Whiting, Kiara Whiting, Hanna Brisson, and Zachary Brisson and her beloved dog R.B.

Marymartha will be remembered for her deep love of family, her strong Polish heritage, and her incredible cooking. She was well known for her Polish dishes and for hosting large Polish festivals for her family. She especially cherished Easter, faithfully attending church each year to have her basket blessed. Marymartha also had a passion for collecting Polish pottery.

She worked at Mercy Medical Center in the Medical Records department prior to raising her family. Later, she worked at and managed the Granny Smith’s Café at the Bel Air Athletic Club. She also owned and operated a cleaning business alongside her longtime friend, Priscilla Corbett.

Marymartha found great joy in cooking, spending time with her family, and especially in her role as a grandmother. She was incredibly proud of her family and the life she built with them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marymartha’s name to Kaufman Cancer Center, Susan G. Komen and St. Ignatius Church – Hickory.
