Mary Louise Carr Sunderland

February 24, 1958 — April 2, 2023

Ms. Mary Louise Carr Sunderland, 65, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, at her home in Abingdon, MD. Born in Millburn, NJ, Ms. Sunderland graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ and attended the University of Alabama and the University of Southern California (USC). A talented athlete, she competed in gymnastics and track & field. In addition, Ms. Sunderland was an accomplished equestrian, pianist and writer. While at USC, she conducted a notable interview with Glen Frey, singer, songwriter and guitarist for the rock band, The Eagles.


Ms. Sunderland had a lifelong love of animals, particularly horses and basset hounds, of which she owned several. After working in New York, NY as an advertising agency administrator, Ms. Sunderland moved to Baltimore, MD where she met and married Michael Sunderland, now deceased. She worked as a medical billing specialist and held positions with Amazon and Macy’s. Ms. Sunderland loved Baltimore and was an ardent fan of the Baltimore Ravens.


Ms.Sunderland is survived by a daughter, Sunshine Dozier of Loris, SC; two grandsons, Jacob and Grayson; two sisters, Eileen Carr Webb of Allen Tex. and Susan Carr Dobson, of Gloucester, MA; and a brother Steven Douglas Carr, also of Gloucester.


A private memorial service will be held for immediate family.
