Darlington

Mary C. Laffey, born on January 15, 1946, in Bayonne, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 79. A cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Mary touched the lives of many with her warmth and zest for life.

Mary began her distinguished career with the federal government at the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne before moving to Fort Monmouth Army Base in New Jersey. Her journey culminated at Aberdeen Proving Ground, where she retired as a Program Analyst. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her passion for adventure.

An avid traveler, Mary loved exploring the United States on her red Harley Trike, where the open road and the thrill of discovery became her cherished companions. Sundays were often reserved for leisurely drives to the Amish Country, where she found joy in the simple beauty of life; seeing the flowers growing and picking up fresh fruits and veggies. Throughout her years, she shared her home and heart with many beloved dogs. Beautiful Abby girl will miss her visits, treats, hugs, and kisses Mary bestowed on her. She created countless memories filled with love and laughter alongside her family.

Mary is survived by her son, Jim Iacovelli, daughter-in-law Patricia “Trishie” Iacovelli, sister Marci Wanagiel, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents William E. Laffey, Sr., and Helen (Higgins) Laffey; brothers Thomas “Tucker” Laffey, William "Billy" Laffey, Jr., John "Jackie" Laffey, and sister Barbara (Laffey) Paradine.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
