Martha Morse Gillis, 84, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Bel Air. She was born in Connecticut to the late Robert Payson Morse and Grace Elizabeth (Colgrove) Morse.

Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hartley Gillis; her son, John Gillis; her father, Robert Morse; and her mother, Grace Morse.

Martha graduated from Gorham High School in 1960. She worked at Westbrook Shoe for many years and was a longtime resident of Buxton, Maine, before moving to Maryland in 2025.

Martha was an avid knitter and crocheter and enjoyed making quilts with her husband. She especially enjoyed giving back to her community and donated countless hats, mittens, and scarves every year to the Buxton Toy Box at Christmas time.

Martha is survived by her son, Joe (Jessica) Gillis; grandchild, Dustin Viger; sisters, Charlene Barini of North Carolina, Mary (Gerald) Minard of Maine, and Roberta Fournier of Maine; also survived by many nieces and nephews across the world and other loving family and friends.
