Marion Oliva, age 101, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the beloved daughter of the late Raphael Squitieri and Mary (Alfano) Squitieri.
Marion was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Oliva; her first husband, Frank Bilello; her sister, Phyllis Russo; her sister, Marie Sorace; her brother, Vincent Squitieri; her father, Raphael Squitieri; and her mother, Mary Squitieri.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Richard Russo (Nephew), Thomas Russo (Nephew), Marianne Wagner (Niece), Frank Sorace (Nephew), Stephen Sorace (Nephew), Donna Giaquinto (Niece), Lisa Sorace (Niece), Ralph Sorace (Nephew), Connie Xerri (Niece), Loretta Lupo (Niece), and Elena Spinelli (Niece). Additionally, she is survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and has been affectionately referred to as Aunt Marion and to some, by Memaw.
Marion was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and has always been a proud New Yorker. After her first husband died not long after they were married, she returned to work as an Executive Secretary at the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Foundation located in the Rockefeller Center Complex located in midtown Manhattan. There she embarked on a new chapter in her life where she immersed herself and took advantage of the many cultural, entertainment, artistic, and culinary opportunities that New York offered.
In addition to this broadening experience at the New York scene, Marion branched out further by becoming a world traveler. She was the first among her siblings to visit other countries and she did this not being married, and in some cases, on her own. She truly loved to travel and was most fond of her trips to Italy.
Marion was always very proud of her Italian heritage, its hospitality, cuisine, and culture. She loved listening to Neapolitan folk songs as well as Italian Opera. Additionally, and most importantly, Marion cherished time spent with her family, especially during holiday gatherings and other events where everyone enjoyed traditional Italian cuisine. While she did not have children of her own, Marion was very close to and involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews and was especially fond of her great-nieces and great-nephews.
Later in life, she moved from New York where she and her husband retired to Maryland. She and her husband, Tom, acclimated easily to Maryland and instantly made many friends as a result of his active membership in the local Sons of Italy, and the Knights of Columbus. They shared a very full social life and along with their new friends, continued their love of travel to different parts of North America.
Marion also dedicated much of her time to serving others. She volunteered for many years as a receptionist at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. She was a former member of St. Margaret's Church and later held membership at St. Francis de Sales Church in Abingdon. Within her Laurel Woods Condominium community, she was actively involved and faithfully served as Secretary/Treasurer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marion’s memory to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
