Mario John Venetos, age 65 a man of deep faith, brilliant mind, and a truly generous spirit, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Bel air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore City, Mario was the beloved son of the late John Emmanuel Venetos and Efthemia (née Lambrinos) Venetos, both of whom preceded him in death. He carried the values of his heritage and family with him throughout his life.
A life of devotion for 38 years, Mario was the devoted husband and best friend of Mary Venetos. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family. He was a guiding light to his children, John Venetos and Eleni Finn, and welcomed his son-in-law Brendan Finn, into the family with open arms. Of all his titles “Grandfather” was one he wore with particular joy, doting on his cherished granddaughter, Daphne Finn. He is also survived by his brothers, Emmanuel Venetos and Lambros Venetos, and a community of friends who felt like family.
Mario’s intellect and dedication were hallmarks of his 45-year career as an electrical engineer with Northrop Grumman. Before his retirement in July 2025, he was regarded not just as a skilled professional, but a mentor and a respected colleague whose pride in his work was evident to everyone who worked alongside him.
Outside of the office, Mario lived life with a vibrant curiosity. He was often found tending to his garden, waiting for a bite while fishing or manning the stove in the kitchen. Mario found true joy in cooking, delighting in the process of preparing meals that brought everyone together around the table. Above all, Mario was a man of the Word. He was deeply devoted to studying the Bible and possessed a sharp, inquisitive mind; he loved nothing more than a spirited, thoughtful challenge regarding the meaning of scripture. With a natural warmth and an effortless ability to talk to anyone, Mario truly never met a stranger.
Memorial Contributions in honor of Mario’s generous heart, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Family and friends are welcomed to his visitation, Trisagion service, and funeral service. Burial is private.
