Margie Lela Berry, age 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from the Lorien Nursing Home in Bel Air, Maryland.
Born on January 22, 1926, in Renick, West Virginia, Margie was the daughter of the late Isaac Moffitt Brown and Maude Elizabeth (Brown) Brown. She spent her early childhood in Friars Hole, West Virginia, before moving to Maryland in her early twenties. There, she met and married the love of her life, Robert Albert Berry. They were married for 46 years until his passing.
Margie was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ from a young age, living a life marked by faith, service, and love. She was an active member of the Bel Air Church of the Nazarene, where she served faithfully for decades. Margie was involved in the church’s Missionary Council, cared for children in the nursery, and loved people wherever she traveled. Her caring spirit and ability to see the best in everyone was a gift she shared with all who knew her.
Professionally, Margie served her community in many ways. She drove a school bus, taught driver’s education to hundreds of students across Harford County and later worked as a teacher’s aide at Old Post Road Elementary School. Even after retiring from the Harford County Board of Education, she continued to serve her local community with tireless devotion.
She often said, “My grandchildren and great-grandchildren are the most precious things in my life,” and her love for family was evident in everything she did.
Margie was preceded in death by her siblings: Owen Brown, Marvin Brown, Elbert Brown, Melvin Brown, Vern Brown, Kenneth Brown, A. Faye Good, and Opal Good.
She is survived by her four devoted children: Linda Reading, Robert Berry, Kevin Berry, and Phyllis Holder, along with their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Margie’s memory to Tabitha’s House in Fallston, MD; Fawn Grove Compassion Center in Pylesville, MD; or to Bel Air Church of the Nazarene in support of Teen Work & Witness trips—ministries that Margie loved and faithfully supported.
