Margaret Melissa Johnson

Margaret Melissa Johnson, age 72, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 23, 2024. Born in Slab Fork, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James V. and Margaret (Milam) McClung and graduated from Edgewood High School. She was married to the late Dennis W. Johnson for over 50 years until his passing in 2021. 

She was an anchor to her family, devoting boundless amounts of love and time to them until the day she passed. A woman of simple pleasures, she loved to keep a beautiful house and yard, and she always made sure to look put together. She enjoyed the flora and fauna of the seasons and had a knack for thrifting, crafting, and restoring furniture. Her grandkids could always count on Grammy having candy for them— and some for herself too. She possessed a quiet grace and patience that belied her three-decade struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Melissa is survived by sons Derek and Jared and wife Winnie; daughter Jessica Kocher and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren Ryan and Sydney Kocher; brothers James Steven and Ward McClung; sisters Wonnie Kelley, Jeannie Brown, and Michelle McClung, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Denene Gallagher.
