Luz Antonia Miranda

Luz Antonia Miranda, age 95, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on December 5, 2023, at My Home Away from Home in Abingdon, Maryland. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico in 1928, she was the daughter of the late Isidro and Fausta (Tirado) Oyola and wife of the late Rafael Miranda for 70 years. Luz left her beloved island in 1948 and traveled to New York City in search of a better life for herself and her family.  She met her future husband, Rafael, and were wed on May 28, 1950. Luz was a devout Pentecostal Christian and a member of the Church of God in Churchville. Luz was known for her Puerto Rican cuisine and enjoyed cooking for her loved ones.  She taught many of her daughters-in-law and grandchildren how to carry on her heritage of Latin cooking and the importance of family gatherings.  Luz cherished her family, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and they adored her!    

Luz is survived by her sons, Nelson Miranda, Edwin Miranda, Sr.; daughters-in-law, Bonnie Miranda and Marsianne Miranda; daughter, Evelyn M. Guzman; brothers, Rafael Oyola, Herminio Oyola, Isidro Oyola Jr., Eliezer Oyola; Luis Ariel Oyola; and sister, Elizabeth Martinez.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Carmen Roman, Caridad Castro, Deborah Velasquez, and her two sons, Rafael Miranda, Jr., Luis Ariel Miranda, and grandson Matthew James Miranda.
