Louanna P. Francies

September 22, 1930 — November 29, 2022

Louanna May Petersen Francies passed away peacefully on 11/29/2022 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in Quarryville, PA. She was 92 years old.

Louanna was born in Fork, MD on September 22, 1930 as the oldest daughter of Otto Ernest Petersen (Hamburg, Germany) and Florence May Dahler Petersen (Fork, MD).

Louanna graduated from the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD as a Registered Nurse in 1952. She had a long career at Union Memorial Hospital progressing to various levels including Head Nurse of Nine East until her retirement in 1992. She maintained a perfect record during her career earning the respect of her peers, accolades from superiors, and deep gratitude from her patients.

On May 14, 1953, Louanna married William Loker Francies of Baldwin, MD. A few years later they built a four-bedroom house according to their design in Fallston, MD where they raised their three daughters: Deborah Lou, Judith Ann, and Terri Lee. Louanna lived in this home for her entire adult life until she chose to move to Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in 2013.

As a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Louanna taught Sunday School to many children including her own. It was very important to Louanna to teach her girls the difference between right and wrong. Louanna always stressed to her girls to work hard and be financially independent so they could make their own decisions. All three of her girls have had their own long and successful professional careers allowing them to make their dreams come true. This brought Louanna tremendous satisfaction, peace, and joy.

There is no doubt Louanna will always be remembered for her love of animals especially for her dog, Blaze. She shared this love of animals with her husband and children allowing them to have animals of all shapes and sizes. William would often bring injured animals home to the children to nurse back to health under Louanna’s tutelage. Strays of all kinds would be welcome to eat at her Fallston home. Louanna taught everyone she met to show kindness and respect to all animals.

Surviving are her sister Helen (Conrad) Rutkowski, daughters Deborah Francies (Charles) Parrish, Judith Francies (Raymond) Leist, Terri Francies (Charles) Berg, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Louanna was preceded in death by her husband, William and her parents, Otto and Florence Petersen.

A private family graveside service and burial will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.

As per Louanna’s wishes, memorial donations are to Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue (donkeyrescue.org - 866-366-5731) or the animal organization of your choice.
