Obituary

Linda Mae Underwood, age 82, of Joppa, Maryland peacefully passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026. Born in Miami, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Guy Fielden and the late Thelma Elta (Wolf) Fielden.

Linda was the beloved wife of John P. Underwood, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Underwood.

Survived by her children Bonnie (Underwood) Bechtel and her husband Michael Bechtel, John Underwood Jr., and daughter-in-law Susan (Famous) Underwood wife of the late JeffreyUnderwood; her cherished grandchildren, Jenna Bechtel, Nathan Bechtel, Grace Underwood, Julia Underwood, and Sophia Underwood; and her brother, Guy Fielden, Jr.

Linda spent most of her life in Baltimore and later in Harford County, Maryland. Linda will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her contagious laugh, and her caring nature, always putting others before herself. She was a role model as a wife, mother, grandmother and true friend. She found happiness in sewing over the years, even making her daughter's wedding gown, cooking wonderful meals for family and friends, gardening, and enjoying a good day of shopping. The holidays, especially Christmas, held a special place in her heart. Christmas morning was always her favorite. She was the first one up and would be impatiently waiting for the rest of us to join her; smiling in anticipation of the love, laughter and magic she created for all of us to enjoy.

One of her favorite places was her house near the beach where she loved to relax, enjoy good food, and make lasting memories with those she loved most. Above all, she cherished time with family and friends, loving every get-together and milestone. Her family was what she was most proud of.

Linda met her husband John while working as a secretary at Holabird Jr. High where he applied for a teaching position. After her first child was born she was able to be home raising her children; later returning to work as an assistant to a local pediatrician for many years.

“She was also known for spoiling all her fur babies over the years. Loving them, feeding them special meals, making sure they had a sweater on when it was cold outside, and giving them lots of treats.”

Her kindness, laughter and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
