Obituary

Linda Gail Caldwell, age 75, of Sanford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on January 22, 2026.

Linda was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to the late Gail and Mary Peak. She was a devoted and loving wife to Raymond Gerald Caldwell, with whom she shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and quiet strength.

She was a proud and cherished mother to Lieutenant Colonel Kent Caldwell and his wife, Crystal, of Sanford, North Carolina. Linda’s love for her family was steadfast and unconditional, and she took great joy in caring for those closest to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her sister, Corine Higgins; and her brothers, Kenneth Peak and Douglas Peak.

Linda is survived by her sisters, Shirley Thompson of Durham, North Carolina; Clara Brown of Parkville, Maryland; and Patricia Fox of Baltimore, Maryland, as well as many loving nieces and nephews who will forever treasure her kindness and generosity.

Throughout her life, Linda wore many hats—hairdresser, paralegal, manager of Highland Community Center, customer service representative at Wachovia Bank, devoted caregiver to her elderly mother, and an exceptional cook whose meals were made with love. No matter the role, Linda served others with compassion, patience, and a giving heart. Her actions spoke louder than words, and the wide circle of family and friends who loved her is a testament to the life she lived.

Linda faced severe arthritis for much of her life, yet she met each challenge with courage, resilience, and grace—always pressing forward with strength and determination.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or the Arthritis Foundation.
