Lewis "Sonny" M. Thornton

Lewis "Sonny" M. Thornton, age 86, of White Hall, Maryland passed away on August 28, 2023, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Whitehall, Maryland, he was the son of Percy and Clara (Jackson) Thornton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces of the Korean War. He was a Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Bel Air, MD, where he and his wife were members for about 18 years. Sonny had such a love of the land and his favorite place to be was tending to his vegetable garden. Above all he loved the Lord and served Him with all he had.  
    
Lewis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yvonne Thornton; daughters, Maryann Shelborne, Veronica Thornton, Marion Johnson, Diane Thornton, And Donna Marie Labad; sons, Terry Thornton, Harvey Thornton and Craig Thornton; brother, Percy Thornton, Jr.; nephew, Robert Jackson; nieces, Tanya Jackson-Guthrie and LaSanya Spence; grandchildren, Charles Utsey, Patrick Pruitt, Darnell Shelborne, Jazmonn Shelborne, Ashley Johnson, Zalika Johnson, Ethan Johson, Melissa McDougle, Xavier McDougle, Alicia DeVillasee, and Brieanna DeVillasee; great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Lewis Thornton, Jr. and sister, Mary Elsie (Jackson) Spence
