Lewis Thomas Ramage of Baldwin Maryland passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 at the age of 86, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Lew was the son of the late Beatrice (Yurek) Ramage and Leonard Wilson Ramage. A gifted student, he graduated from Sparrows Point High School at the age of 16 before attending Virginia Tech where he was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering.
After his graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Chandler. With Nancy, he started a life-long commitment to family, learning and adventure. Lew joined the Air National Guard as a navigator and rose to the rank of Captain, traveling the world from the U.S. to Europe.
Lew spent more than 30 years working for Armco Steel. During that time, he instilled in his family a love of travel - planning and executing epic vacations that included trips to Florida, Montreal, and an unforgettable cross-country drive to many national parks. Still an adventurer at heart, he travelled to Florida, at the age of 70, where he kayaked past alligators and parasailed in Key West.
From playing baseball as a child and multiple sports in college, to religiously following the Orioles and the Ravens, Lew was a lifelong lover of sports. Lew combined this dedication with his love for his children by coaching his children’s softball and baseball teams. His experience coaching was an immense source of pride and joy.
Lew volunteered as an Usher Captain for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church and served his community as a member of the Ruritan Club. Always an inquisitive spirit, he enjoyed solving the daily crossword puzzle, collecting stamps, taking photos, participating in family slide-show nights and nurturing his large, productive garden.
Lew is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Chandler Ramage, as well as his children Jeffrey Ramage and wife Margaret Hartka, Julie Ramage Huether and partner Antonio Olmedo, and Brian Ramage and wife Jessica Ramage. In addition, he is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Zachary Huether and wife Emma Jo, Brianna Huether, Lucas Ramage and Allison Ramage; his brother, Phillip Ramage; his brother-in-law, Wayne Chandler and wife Sandie; sister-in-law, Betty Chandler; and numerous nieces and nephews
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate; Trinity Lutheran Church; or the charity of your choice.
