LEO GEORGE DeMELLIER, age 82, of Bel Air, died at his home on October 11, 2002. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George Alexander and Kathleen Agnes Forestal DeMellier, and the husband of the late Athleen Hoppers DeMellier. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was awarded numerous metals, including the Bronze Star. He fought in the Tunisia- North African Campaign. He was a rifleman in Company L, 60th Infantry of the 9th Infantry Division. He worked at APG from 1946-1972 and retired as a Post Engineer Superintendent and Branch Chief. He was an expert carpenter/ cabinetmaker. After retiring he earned his real estate license and sold real estate for several years. He was an avid reader and very interested in politics. A member of the American Legion in Bel Air, he also was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Mr. DeMellier is survived by three daughters, Barbara Dassele of Abingdon; Peggy Jones of Bel Air; Dr. Mary DeMellier Navran of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Cletus DeMellier of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Thomas DeMellier of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Irene “Bebe” McCloskey of Southington, Connecticut; Kathleen Andes of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, George DeMellier.
