Ken Kerlin, age 87, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026. Born to the late Robert and Catherine (Woodward) Kerlin, Ken lived a life defined by hard work, many talents, and a lifelong love of the water.

Ken worked for Clark Machinery until his retirement. Never one to sit still, he spent his retirement enjoying his waterfront property and operating his own repair business. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Ken served from April 1963 until 1968. It was during his years of service that he developed a deep appreciation for all things maritime—a passion that would remain with him throughout his life.

Ken was happiest on or near the water. Over the years, he raced hydroplane boats in competitions, built his own dock, machined propellers for customers, and repaired everything from outboard motors to heavy marine diesel engines. His skill, ingenuity, and ability to fix just about anything were among the many qualities that made him who he was.

Ken's waterfront home held a particularly special place in his heart. In the early 1980s, while traveling along Rock Creek in his 1952 40-foot Chris-Craft boat, he spotted an enormous "For Sale" sign on the property. Without the help of a realtor, Ken docked his boat, made a cash offer that very day, and the offer was accepted. The property became his home for decades and the setting for countless memories.

It was only fitting that Ken spent his final moments in the place he loved so much. He passed away peacefully while looking down that very dock and telling one of his famous stories to his son—a quiet and meaningful ending to a life so closely connected to the water.

Ken is survived by his son, Ryan Cappelletti and his wife, Ashleigh; his beloved granddaughter, Isla; and many cherished extended family members.
