Keith William Mellor

October 5, 1961 — December 20, 2023

Keith William Mellor, age 62, of Abingdon, Maryland, entered eternal rest on December 20, 2023, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland.  “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55 NRSV   Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the beloved son of Doris Marie (Unverzagt) Mellor and the late Mark Mellor. The Mellor family moved from Catonsville to Westview Park, where Keith graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1980 along with his twin sister, Carol.
Throughout his life, Keith had an admiration of his father’s career as a Lieutenant in the Baltimore County Fire Department.  So as homage to him, he contributed his time as a member of the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County until he moved to Parkville. Keith retired from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, concluding a successful career as a heating and air conditioning technician, where he had amassed many years of service.
Beyond his professional life, Keith had a passion for collecting coins, something his father was passionate too.  From his early years exposure to firearms on his Uncle Doug’s farm in Haymarket, VA he became a firearm enthusiast and a longtime member of the NRA. He loved his local sports teams, particularly the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Baltimore Ravens.
Keith had a great love for military history and current military armament.  He visited many retired naval vessels in dock.  He also loved to go on cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas.  His favorite destination, however, whether by sea or plane was Hawaii, visiting Pearl Harbor among many other sites, with his beloved friend Regina M. Frau (Gina), who is now at peace after a long battle with Lymphoma.
Keith is survived by three loving and devoted sisters, Sallie J.  Gartside and her husband Michael, Cathy A. Stilwell and her late husband Don, and his twin Carol L. Mellor, as well as his beloved niece, Kimberley A. Wingate and her husband Justin, and great-niece and nephew, Payton and Nathan Wingate.  Keith is predeceased by his brother-in-law Don Stilwell.
Keith was baptized Lutheran at Catonsville Evangelical Lutheran in Catonsville, MD and he attended St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Parkville, MD where his ex-father-in-law, the late Rev. Walter P. Schoenfuhs, Sr. was pastor until shortly before Keith moved to Abingdon, Maryland.  He discussed his spirituality with his eldest sister Sallie regularly. Keith had a great love of animals, particularly cats, since he was a child.  His precious Viper and Salem stand out as his favorites.  He would feed stray cats in the neighborhood and give them shelter in poor weather.  If your heart so desires, you may contribute to Luna’s House in his memory at:  P.O. Box 802, Abingdon, MD 21009, or through www.lunashouse.org. Contributions may also be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 201 Mount Royal Ave, Aberdeen, MD 21001 or through www.growwithjesus.org
Please know how thankful the family is for your support during their time of loss. There are days when it all seems unreal and hard to comprehend. It is in times like this when they remember that they are in the hearts and minds of those who know what they are going through.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.                                                                             Revelation 24: 1 RNSV
