Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Joyce Elaine Anderson of Bel Air, Maryland. She left us on March 30, 2026 in her home with her husband, Lee Anderson, eldest daughter, Wendy Hundley, and beloved dog, Shadow, by her side. Joyce was born on April 4, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to Harry and Gladys Long.

The youngest in her family, she spent her early life playing sports and enjoying activities on the water such as water skiing and crabbing. She met her husband, Lee Anderson, in 1956, when they were 11 and 12 years old. They grew up together—attending many proms and dances as a pair. She graduated from Sparrow’s Point high school in 1963. She and Lee married just a few months later on November 23, 1963.

In her adult life, she worked at a clothing store and as a key punch operator at various locations, including Bethlehem Steel. In 1967, she welcomed her first child and settled into her new and favorite role as a mother and homemaker. From then on, she threw herself into raising her children, baking, cooking, sewing, and running errands for her mother. In addition to enjoying shopping, long drives, and road trips with family, she was incredibly passionate about caring for animals. From keeping a horse to raising a cockatiel, rescuing numerous stray dogs and even a cat, she was always taking in and taking care of animals big and small.

During their retirement, Lee and Joyce enjoyed new friendships and fun times with the Corvette club of Bel Air and passed time tending to their gardens, floating in their pool, and visiting with family. She could also always be counted on to keep her loved ones informed about inclement weather. In her last few years, she took delight in seeing the birds and flowers in her yard as well as the support and love of Lee and the rest of her family.

A kind and sensitive soul, Joyce continues to be loved by many and will leave behind a legacy of gentleness, subtle humor, and deep love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and myriad pets.

Survived by her loving husband, Lee Anderson; her daughter, Wendy Hundley; her daughter Cindy and son in law Dave Kippax; her son Richard and daughter in law Lori Anderson; and grandchildren Elaina Hundley and Nate Anderson. She is also survived by her sister Wilma Heck. She is predeceased by Hayes Long, Lila Stout, Richard Long, Harry Nelson Long, and Thelma Lenderman.
